In the Gospels, after Jesus and His disciples eat the Passover, it says “and when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” (Mark 26:30). In this passage, the word for “hymn” actually means “hallel”, or “praise”. In Jewish culture, this phrase is used to refer to this particular collection of psalms. Even today, this section of Scripture is sung by the Jewish people throughout the world during special times of the year such as Passover, Hanukkah, and Rosh Chodesh.
